Wedding first looks have become increasingly popular through the years. However, couples can have a hard time deciding if doing one is the right decision for them. Today I’m breaking down the pros and cons of a first look to help guide you to the decision that’s best for you!
A first look is a great time to capture the real, raw emotions shared between the couple before the ceremony. Your photographer is able to kick start the day capturing such beautiful moments between the two of you. Not only that, but it’s also a great time to complete all of your photos beforehand. I’m talking bridal party photos, family photos, etc. This means after the ceremony you can focus on newly wed photos and/or enjoy cocktail hour if you’d like!
If you choose to do a first look, walking down the aisle may come with different emotions. Loved ones also aren’t able to experience the two of you seeing each other for the first time on your special day. Not that it matters at all, because it’s YOUR day, but just be prepared that the vibe when those doors open to walk down the aisle will feel different.
Having an intimate moment with just the two of you takes away from the pressure of the day. You’re able to talk to each other, calm your nerves, and just enjoy the time away from everyone on your special day. Often times, if you don’t do a first look you may not have that alone time together. It just makes it extra special!
When choosing to do a first look, this will have to be planned into your timeline. Often times this means having to be ready earlier than you would if you decided against a first look. This also means that you may have to touch up your hair and makeup before the ceremony (because you know… tears may very well happen!) so be sure to keep some supplies handy to do so!
Before you share your vows and commitment to one another with your friends and family, you could totally use this time to say those meaningful words to each other while you’re alone.
The best thing about making this decision is that there is no right or wrong answer! It’s simply what’s best for the both of you as a couple. I hope these pros and cons of a first look gave you some insight to help you choose what’s best for YOU!
