If there’s on common regret amongst brides, it’s not spending the extra money to hire a wedding videographer. Sure you’ll have amazing photos, but there’s something about having a video that showcases the emotion behind the photos in real time. But, before hiring your wedding videographer to capture the footage of your day we’re sharing some info that you may want to know!

Basic Information

Like photographers, videographers also have a “style” in the way they like to capture the day. You’ll have to research and see which style resonates with yours most. You’ll also need to figure out if you’d like one or two cameras there during the day. This can vary based on logistics or just personal preference. In addition, you’ll also have to determine how many hours you’d like to have them there for. Most have package deals like videographers so they’ll be able to help you choose based on what you’re looking for.

The Process

Once you’ve determined what you’re looking for in a videographer, you can then do research and reach out to those you’d be interested in hiring. From there you can discuss with each of them the options they offer and see which one fits best with what you’re looking for in terms of style, hours, budget, etc. Once you’ve made a decision you’ll more than likely be sent a contract to sign and send a deposit in. A videographer isn’t a vendor you have to keep in constant contact with throughout the planning process. However, once you’re about three months out I suggest sharing all the details and timeline information so they can prepare themselves and their assistant if they’re bringing one.

Timeline

Since wedding videographers are becoming increasingly popular, we suggest once you know who you’d like to go with to book them right away. Otherwise, it is common to wait 8-12 months before your wedding day.

Tips + Tricks

If your trying to stick to a budget, go with the most basic package. It may not have everything you’re wanting, but at least you’re going to get amazing footage of your day! However, if your budget allows for it, you can then add on trailer, highlight, and any other add ons you find fitting.

Don’t be afraid to tell your videographer your budget and ask what all they can do for that price.

Don’t micromanage! Let the creatives do their work. Sometimes couples try to detail every little thing that must be in their video, but that’s not realistic. This is why it’s important to do your research ahead of time so you choose someone you trust.

Questions + Things to Consider

Pay attention to the contract and know exactly what you’re getting. Don’t think you’re getting a 15 minute video when you only paid for 4-6 minute highlight.

Ask questions. If there’s something you really want on your video make sure to see if its possible. Videographers capture a lot throughout the day so narrowing it down is where they put their creative touch. for example, if you want your voices saying your vows on video, see if they are able to mic you up and have that in your video

Don’t expect to get your wedding video right away. Most take at least 6-8 weeks to get the videos completed. If not detailed in the contract, it’s okay to ask for timeframe!
