Tell me about your love story!

Joel and I met through a mutual friend, Kyle. I met through mutual friends when we were living in Miami. Kyle moved Austin, TX and shortly after I was transferred there for work. In 2010 Joel came to visit Kyle, which is where we first met. We met again a year later at a wedding back in Joel and Kyle’s hometown. That is when we truly connected. We hung out for a while after that weekend but Joel was just out of a divorce and I was traveling too much. We ended up being friends which led to long phone conversations and eventually Facetime chats at least once a month for years becoming best friends.

In 2016, I was traveling to Dallas for work and Joel said he wanted to come pick me up from the airport. I didn’t think it would actually happen because he was two hours away and he was known to be a bit flaky when it came to actually meeting me in person :). To my surprise he did come and it was instant connection again. I flew down to visit again a few weeks later and it turned into a long distance romance. We would travel back and forth to see each other, me traveling to Texas and Joel traveling up to Philadelphia. I met his two boys about two months later.

I knew the first time he flew up to Philadelphia that this was it. There would be no one else. He says the same thing – as soon as we started dating, he knew it was the real deal. There had always been a crazy force connecting us, and if we started things for real, it would be forever. Actually a few years before, when we first met, I told my best friend I was going to marry this guy. I never said that about anyone. Fast forward and it was true – just wasn’t true right then.

What are a few things you love about each other?

First our friendship, we tell eachother everything – even if it hurts. Second, I love his big heart, sense of humor, how great of a father he is, how much he loves and takes care of me, his sweet smile and he is so handsome.

Where was your first kiss?

Our first kiss was in Palestine outside a honky tonk about 9 years ago. It seems like just yesterday!

What is your favorite thing to do together?

First we LOVE to eat and second we love to try new cocktails! We love to try new food and doing food and drink pairing dinners. I think it boils down to us loving to try new things

How did you come up with your wedding theme or color scheme?

I have been really obsessed with dusty rose for a while. I saw some accents at a wedding with the rose golds and of course found a color palette on Pinterest that was perfect and just ran with it.

Any wedding planning tips for future couples?

One, GET at least a day of coordinator. Unless you have an army behind you to coordinate it you will not have the brain capacity to pull it off, especially if you are doing a lot of DIY.

Two, your budget is typically out the window – so don’t fight with your significant other about expenses – its not worth it

Three, it is both of YOUR days, do what YOU both want, not what others want you to do. Make it special. And even if you think its silly to add in; add it, someone will be on your level and think it is great

What was one of the most stressful parts of wedding planning?

I am here in Texas by myself so I had no one helping me with the details in the way they could if they lived near me. Coordinating the vendors, making sure there are no calendar hiccups, and figuring out seating is challenging. Also, there are so many small details that come up after you have figured out the big items. That was a big stresser for me. Then comes all the people with opinions and issues – try to block them out.

Where are you going on your honeymoon?

Italy!! We are starting first in Rome, second in Florence and lastly Venice.
